The total number of articles hallmarked across the four UK Assay Offices in November was up 5.1% compared to the same month in 2012. It is promising to see the number of gold articles up for the fourth consecutive month, an indication that the falling gold price is starting to have a positive impact on the number of gold articles submitted for hallmarking. The total number of gold articles hallmarked increased by 7.2% with uplifts across all carat standards. Silver was also up 2.7% and platinum and palladium also showing increases of 20.3% and 18.5% respectively. This information has been compiled by THE BIRMINGHAM ASSAY OFFICE.
