An encouraging set of hallmarking figures in September with the number of units hallmarked by the four UK Assay Offices up 5.3% on Sept 2014. Gold articles hallmarked were up 5.6%, Silver articles up 5.0% and Platinum up 10.6%. Conversely, Palladium articles hallmarked were down 11.3%. The total number of articles hallmarked by the UK Assay Offices in June 2015 was up by 94,023 articles compared to the same month in 2014; an overall increase of 12.3% The total number of gold articles hallmarked were up 15.4%, Silver articles hallmarked were up 10.3% and Platinum up 16.1%. Palladium numbers were down by 23.8%. The hallmarking statistics for the second quarter of 2015 ending 30th June showed an overall growth in total number of articles hallmarked of 8.5%.

Another good month for hallmarking numbers with the total number of articles hallmarked across all four UK Assay Offices in the month of May up 3.1%, an increase of 23,195 articles on the same period in 2014. 9ct gold articles hallmarked fared well again, up 3.7%, whilst gold articles hallmarked overall were up 1.6%. A strong month for silver too with the total number of articles hallmarked up 7.6%. However, the total number of platinum and palladium hallmarked were down on May 2014 with platinum down 13.8% and palladium down 40.5%. Assay Office Birmingham has compiled the latest UK Hallmarking figures for the month of March 2015 and Quarter 1. After a strong February when Hallmarking figures were 7.9% up on the previous year, March showed a dip for all categories except Platinum, leaving the first Quarter of 2015 relatively flat, 1.4% down against 2014. The figures, compiled from all four UK Assay Offices, Birmingham, Edinburgh, London and Sheffield confirm a continuing decline in the number of silver hallmarks struck, down by 71,852 or 6.4% in the first quarter of 2015 against last year. Meanwhile, Gold is on the up and 18ct in particular has shown strong growth in the first quarter being 20,700 units, i.e. 12.4% up. Platinum has also performed well and 5,200, i.e. 8.8% more platinum hallmarks were struck than in the first quarter.
